The Intersectionality of Extractive Colonialism

This podcast discusses the intersectionality of extractive colonialism, in it, I consider how the effects of extractive colonialism play out differently depending on a person’s nationality, gender, or class. I begin by discussing what extractive colonialism is and what it means to be a colonial power. Next, I explain two different methods for analyzing intersectionality and use each in directing the effects of extractive colonialism, with a focus on Indigenous communities in South America. Lastly, I discuss how regardless of a person’s race, gender, age, or sexual orientation, living and participating within the systems of consumerism and capitalism implicates you in the problem of extractive colonialism.
